In a 16oz glass filled with ice add:

1.5 oz Vodka (or flavored spirit of your choice)
1oz- 2oz Strawberry Cocktail Syrup (recipe below)
1.5 oz sweetened condensed milk slightly diluted with 2% milk
Topped with clube soda or seltzer. (I used Fever Tree club soda)
Give this a quick stir and garnish with Mango Whipped Cream (recipe below) and a confetti sprinkle filled satellite wafer candy.

To drink:

Tear open wafer and sprinkle over the top of the drink. Stir in whipped cream for a creamier or treat or (if you're like me) lick whipped cream off the top.

Strawberry Cocktail Syrup Recipe

Ingredients:

1 lb fresh strawberries
1 cup sugar
1/2 lime zested and juiced
small pinch of salt

How to make strawberry cocktail syrup

Chop up strawberries and place in a small glass bowl
Add lime zest, lime juice, and salt
Cover with sugar
Cover and place in fridge for at least a few hours (I left mine overnight), then blitz with an immersion blender.
Strain out large chunks (these can be saved and used to make strawberry pancakes or served over angel food cake)
Store strained liquid in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 weeks until ready to be used.

Mango Whipped Cream

Ingredients:

1.5 cups Heavy whipping cream
3/4 cup mango puree
3 oz Pineapple juice (optional, but gives the flavor a nice punch)

How to make Mango Whipped Cream

Add all ingredients to a cream whipper (only until your fill line, my recipe is based on this cream whipper, but still be careful)
Shake and allow to chill
Charge the canister and store for 5-7 days until ready to use.

Really, this is a pretty simple story. I knew Valentine's Day was falling on my day of the week at my current bartending job, so I decided to have a special cocktail waiting for my guests. I wanted something delicious and to be a Valentine's cocktail that could be made for volume at a bar.

I had a basic idea that I wanted a pink or red cocktail I could make that would be accessible for everyone. I browsed the produce section at my local grocery store and found a deal on blackberries, which always make a vibrant red syrup. I added some passionfruit juice to make the flavor a little more complex.

Fun Fact: The bar I work at has more of a \"cheeky\" vibe, so I called it the \"Passion Hole\". I renamed it for my site because search engines are weird.

After that I needed to figure out the garnish. I ordered some red rimming sugar as surefire back-up but I really wanted the garnish to incorporate a heart somehow. I tried stencils, cookie cutters, and pre-made heart shaped candy before landing on candy ribbons.

It took me a while to figure out how to produce a consistent heart at speed with tools I had at the bar but I finally figured out the shot-glass smooshing method. (Actually, the best and fastest way was to use my pliers, but I didn't have a clean pair to use at the bar and it's kind of a weird flex.)

Cocktail Recipe

1.5oz Gin or Vodka (I used Bombay Sapphire, but this cocktail is versatile for most spirits)
1 oz Passion fruit Blackberry Cocktail Syrup (instructions below)
Top with seltzer or press (1/2 seltzer 1/2 sprite)

Rim a glass with red cocktail sugar, fill with ice. Pour gin/vodka over the ice, followed by syrup and top with seltzer or press. Give it a quick stir and top with strawberry heart garnsh.

Passionfruit Blackberry Cocktail Syrup Recipe

This recipe can be pre-made up to 2 weeks in advance.

1 cup blackberries
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup passion fruit juice
1 tbsp citric acid
tiny pinch of salt

Put the blackberries in a bowl or mixing cup and crush with a muddler of the back of a wooden spoon. Sprinkle salt, citric acid, and sugar over the berries. Cover and allow to sit for 2-4 hours. This will extract the juice and flavor of the berries without having to heat the syrup (which changes the flavor). Add passion fruit juice and blitz with an immersion blender. Strain mixture, first with a sieve and then a fine strainer to remove all seeds/pulp.

Store covered in the fridge until ready to use.

Edible Heart Garnish for Romantic Cocktails

-Red Candy Belts (I used sour strawberry) These ones were especially delicious and I ended up snacking on the leftovers.

Cut the candy ribbons into 3 inch strips. Fold the strips in half and use a shot glass (or clean pliers) to smoosh the fold. then take the other ends and smoosh them together to form a heart. These can be premade and kept cold to hold their shape.

Background/Inspiration of Barbie Inspired Drink Recipe

Like much of the internet I've been eagerly anticipating the Barbie Movie ever since those leaked photos from the set showing Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in the *brightest* clothes imaginable.

While I will have a cocktail based on that specific look, for this Barbie inspired drink recipe I looked back to the original 1971 Malibu Barbie. With her blue swimsuit, pink glasses, and yellow towel, this babe living her life fantastic life in plastic was an instant style icon.

Around the time I was visualizing the recipe I saw someone post about enjoying a Brazilian lemonade. I tried a recipe for myself and instantly knew this would be the base of my beach barbie cocktail.

At time of writing there is still a week before the movie is released to the general public and I literally can't take it anymore, I'm so freaking excited.

Cocktail Journey for the Malibu Babe Cocktail Recipe: Spiked Brazilian Lemonade

As mentioned above this cocktail is heavily inspired by Brazilian Lemonade (AKA Swiss Lemonade). Lemonade in Brazil is associated with limes due to the fun way translation and words work. I immediately fell in love with the version that uses sweetened condensed milk. I found by using that I got a rich but still light and refreshing cocktails.

While most recipes call for sugar, I found the sweetened milk, flavored vodka, and flavored seltzer provided enough sweetness for me. If you like a sweeter cocktail you can always add some extra sweetener.

Originally this cocktail was going to use Blue pea gin, but in order to get a blue colored cocktail with that the cocktail needs to have a high pH level, which is tricky for a cocktail with limes. I experimented with using egg whites and other ingredients to increase the pH, but the color never became something I was happy with.

I briefly thought about using blue curacao in the cocktail to make it blue, but I didn't want the extra flavor/sweetness and all I really wanted was the blue food coloring in it. Eventually I settled on just adding some food coloring directly and avoiding the rest of the curacao. I'm aware many cocktail creators frown on food coloring, but bakers use it all the time and I don't understand the big deal. Plus it's pretty.

\"MaliBlue Babe\" Batch Cocktail Recipe Inspired by the Barbie Movie and the Original Malibu Barbie.

Ingredients (makes 4 cocktails)

1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
1 cup Huckleberry Vodka (for an N/A version, you can substiute with water or apple juice)
2 small limes
Flavored Seltzer (I used Bubly Grapefruit, but all the flavors in the variety pack I got tasted good except the strawberry which had an odd aftertaste)
Blue food coloring

Directions

Note: You can strain the cocktail if you want to remove the lime bits, but I liked the texture and flavor unstrained.

To make one cocktail, add 1 oz of the milk, half a small lime cut into quarters, and 2oz of vodka to a bullet blender. Blend until smooth, add a small handful of ice and blend again.

Garnish: Pink sugar sunglasses and sour candy belt \"towel\"

The \"towel\" I just bought on Amazon and really liked it. It arrived fresh tasting and the sour pineapple flavor went really well for the cocktail.

Edible Pink Sunglasses Cocktail Garnish

Note: Throughout this whole process ve very careful of protecting yourself and your surfaces. Molten sugar gets *very* hot and crushing candy can be dangerous.

For this I used some lollipop molds and crushed up watermelon Jolly Ranchers. To make one side: sprinkle a nice layer of the crushed candy into the molds and microwave for 10 seconds at a time until the candy starts to melt (keep a very close eye on them, they will go from melted to burnt in about 2 seconds.) Try to keep them even, but I recommend only making a couple at a time). Carefully remove from microwave wearing heat protected gloves, add the sticks and I also gave a small sprinkle of edible glitter for a little extra razzle dazzle. Allow to completely cool undisturbed. (Note: I added the sticks at the end because the kit I ordered had silicone molds rated to over 400 degrees fahrenheit and... plastic sticks that melted pretty readily in a few of my experiments. My apartment will never smell the same again).

*Note: Always be extremely careful with molten sugar. Allow the pops to cool completely before handling

Once completely cool, trim the sticks and make a second batch and press the first batch into them (making sure they're facing the same way, the molded side will be smoother) and allow to completely cool before handling. Wrap doubled up sprakly pink twist ties around the center to fashion a hook to hang off the glass.

I also put the pineapple candy on a fancy cocktail pick.

Background/Inspiration for Blood and Drag Cocktail Inspired by the Boulet Brothers

The Boulet Brothers first came on my radar when season 3 popped up in my netflix recommendations. I was immediately hooked on the Boulet Brothers take on the world of drag competition.

They are the most inclusive I've seen of televised drag competition series (Landon Cider was the first drag king featured on tv drag competition and immediately proved any doubters wrong, see \"The Mustache Daddy\" berry gin fizz drink recipe inspired by Landon). They also mix in a little bit of Fear Factor, plenty of horror elements, and challenges that are unheard of on other shows.

You can tell they also don't necessarily cast the richest drag performers, at least the seasons I've seen. This means they still have that rag-tag, fly-by-night reliance on creativity and skill instead of the biggest checkbook. (That being said, the performers still need to have some polish to win but I rarely thought \"oh the contestant spent a lot of money on this from a couture designer instead of making it themselves\"). I love that bit of scrappiness in a creative competition.

The Brothers themselves, although very spooky and typically bathed in blood, radiate kindness and acceptance. They may look like glamorour demons but you can feel the genuine affection they have for their contestants and crew. If you've never experienced the Boulet Brothers, they are worth the cost of a Shudder subscription.

This makes them the perfect inclusion in my Drag Inspir ed Pride Cocktail Series and I hope you'll agree.

Cocktail Journey for Spooky Halloween Bourbon Drink Recipe

Admittedly, this cocktail didn't start from the most inspired place. Basically my thought process was Boulet Brothers--> Blood --> Blood and Sand cocktail. You may notice the final cocktail has very little in common with a classic Blood and Sand which is typical of my cocktail journeys.

Immediately I was hampered by blood oranges not being in season. I ended up using pink cava cavas, but their flavor isn't super different from your classic navel orange. I decided to make it into a syrup and added berries for flavor and color. (Some people claim they can taste berries when eating actual blood oranges. These people are liars but I wanted to recreate that experience.)

After that it was off to my local liqur store which has a shockingly poor vermouth selection. Without that depth of flavor the cocktail was really flat so I added the Angostura to add some herbally depth. Then I spotted the Cranberry Liqueur from a local distillery (Great Lakes Distillery) and decided to give it a shot. It is a good cocktail ingredient, very delicious with a nice flavor and a sour punch.

Because of the sour punch in the liqueur I toned down the citric acid I usually add to my syrups quite a lot.

The only alterations I made after that was finding the right balance between the ingredients, which required a fair dose of bourbon to balance out the strong flavors of the liqueur and syrup. It's dark, bloody, but very kind to the soul, just like the Boulet Brothers themselves.

Cocktail (makes 1)

2oz bourbon
1oz blackberry orange syrup (see below)
.75oz Great Lakes Cranberry Liqueur
3 dashes Angostura Bitters

Directions:

Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice. Stir until chilled and pour in a glass garnished with edible sparkly glitter blood drizzle. (The wine glass pictured was found at a thrift shop and I couldn't find it available online new. If you search \"black tulip stem wine glass\" you can find them on ebay)

Blackberry Orange Syrup / Glitter Blood Drizzle Garnish syrup

2 oranges (blood oranges if they're in season)
1.5 cups sugar (divided into 1 cup and .5 cup)
1 teaspoon citric acid
1/2 cup blackberries
corn starch slurry (1.5 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 1.5 tbsp cold water)
1.5 cups water
Edible Glitter
1/8 tsp salt

Directions:

In a large pourable container zest and juice the oranges. Add blackberries and muddle everything together. Add water and use an immersion blender to fully combine. Strain to remove pulp, seeds, and large pieces of zest.

Glitter Blood Syrup Recipe

Take .5 cup of the mixture and put in in a small saucepan and stir in the cornstarch slurry until dissolved. Add 1 cup of sugar and stir again. Heat mixture until it just starts to boil and reducee heat to low and gently simmer for about 5 minutes. Be extremely careful not to get any hot syrup on you or allow the mixture the boil (you don't want to make hard candy). Remove from heat and add edible glitter until sufficiently sparkly (I ended up using about half a teaspoon). Allow to cool before using. If the syrup isn't red enough add food coloring until blood red. I ended up using red and a little black to get it nice and dark, as well as shit ton of edible glitter.

Blackberry Orange Syrup

With remaining liquid add 1 tsp citric acid, 1/8tsp salt, and .5 cup sugar. Use immersion blender until everything is dissolved. Can be used immediately. (I made this less sour than most of my syrup recipes as the Cranberry liqueur was already pretty sour. If you substitute a liqueur that is not sour, add another teaspoon or 2 of citric acid.)

Optional Garnish: Nori Horns

I took a small square of nori wrap and wrapped them into horns, using a little water to keep it together. I then cut some small slits so the horns could be placed on the glass rim. This garnish is technically edible but will add an \"ocean-y\" flavor to your palate.
