What takes a mojito from the realm of the everyday to the land of Fancy as Fuck? The addition of beautifully delicious and deliciously beautiful hibiscus syrup! This Hibiscus Mojito takes an already awesome drink to exotic volcanic islands levels of escapism.

Hibiscus flowers are celebrated throughout the world for their beautiful color, but in the US many people do not seem to know how awesome these beauties taste. They have a tangy, citrusy flavor that reminds me kind of a mix of lemon, cranberries, and roses.

Some people say Hibiscus tea can lower your blood pressure, but the medical community hasn’t put much effort into proving or refuting these claims.

I used fresh blooms I found growing in my garden to make the tart floral Hibiscus tea because I’m fancy like that. However, Organic Hibiscus Teas (Amazon link) are easily found online and make an equally delicious brew.

This refreshing Hibiscus Mojito can make any backyard or park feel like a tropical getaway, and while manly men may feel threatened by such a fancy drink, real men know how to appreciate a taste sensation.

Hibiscus Syrup

1 cup Sugar
1 cup boiling water
1/4 cup dried Hibiscus -or- 8 large flowers (just the petals!)

Allow the Hibiscus to steep in the boiling water until the water turns bright crimson. Mix in the sugar until fully dissolved. This syrup will keep in the fridge for at least a week, if not longer.

The Hibiscus Mojito, a unique and creative take on the classic mojito.
Servings 1

Ingredients
  

  • 2 oz Rum
  • .75 oz Hibiscus Syrup
  • 1/2 Lime Cut into wedges
  • 6-8 Mint Leaves
  • Seltzer Water

Instructions
 

  • Gently roll mint leaves in your hand to release oils (careful not to tear the leaves.)
  • Gently shake with ice all the ingredients minus seltzer water and pour into a tall glass.
  • Top with more ice and seltzer water.
  • Add your creative garnish!

(Serves 6)
1.5 cups Rum
.5 cup Hibiscus Syrup
3 Limes juiced
1 oz Mint
1 Liter Seltzer Water

Gently roll mint leaves in hand to release oils, being careful not to tear them. Place leaves into a pitcher with Rum, Lime Juice, and Hibiscus Syrup. The seltzer water can be added to the pitcher immediately before serving (being careful not to over dilute, keep tasting the cocktail as you add the seltzer, you may need more or less than 1 Liter of seltzer depending on your tastes) or you can provide a bottle of seltzer for your guests to add to their own cocktails.

Garnishes

Screw the cocktail, just give me a fork and this garnish

Fancy
Buy some extra mint and make small bouquets that can be placed on top of the cocktails.

Really Fancy
Place some fresh hibiscus petals in that glass and bask in the impressed looks on your friends.

Fancy as Fuck
Put a whole hibiscus flower and mint bouquet on top of your hibiscus mojito. This looks ridiculously fancy and might cause fatal jealousy amongst your friends, so be careful! (Also, tell your friends not to eat the stamen of the hibiscus, only the petals are edible.)
